Introduction n The CAS Key Laboratory of Tibetan Environment Changes and Land Surface Processes focuses on Tibetan environment changes as well as how the Tibetan Plateau ( TP ) responds and adapts to global change .The Laboratory strives to uncover mechanisms behind environmental changes on the plateau , in an effort to clarify how land surface processes work on the TP and what impact they have on the East Asia and beyond .

Upcoming report : Are the sediments of Lake Nam Co justifying any effort for an ICDP drilling project ? Presenter : Dr . Gerhard Daut , Department of Geography , University of Jena , GermanyProf . Volkhard Spiess .University of Bremen and University of Jena made joint efforts to carry out a deep seismic survey of Lake Nam Co . Some preliminary observation are presented here : - The total sediment thickness may exceed several hundred meters .In the ideal case , more than 750 ms TWT of sediment may exist in the central basin , as a bedrock reflection could not yet be identified .
Upcoming report : Insights on habitability in icy brines of Lake VidaPresenter : Dr . Alison Murray , Division of Earth and Ecosystem Sciences , Desert Research Institute .Venue : No . 825 meeting room , ITP , BeijingTime : 4.00 pm - 5.00pm , Friday , June 20 , 2014Moderator : Prof . LIU YongqinWelcome .
Two existing vegetation maps with very different land cover conditions over the TP , one with bare ground and one with vegetation cover , derived from satellite derived data , are tested and produce clearer climate signals due to land cover change .ITP , BeijingTime : 2.00 - 5.30 pm , Friday , June 20 , 2014Moderator : Prof . WANG LeiWelcome to the seminar .
