On 26th, Jan, 2005, a meeting was held among Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITP), CAREERI, Institute of Geographical Science and Natural Resources (IGSNR), and Institute of Geoscience and Lake (Nanjing) to discuss development issues of the MORP plan(Monitoring and observation platform for Tibetan Plateau research).
Prof Yao Tandong, director of ITP presided over the meeting. Present were also such researchers as Prof. Wang Ninglian, Prof. Lu Anxin, Prof Yang Xiangdong and some scientific research staff of ITP.
Prof. Kang Shichang, Prof. Ma Yaoming and Prof. Luo Tianxiang took turns to inform the participants of the planning and the implementation of the three stations within MORP. Followed was the free discussion, which yielded the following agreement: first, to establish six to eight stations for scientific studies on the plateau, taking advantage of CAS Third Innovation Period and its eleventh five year plan; then, starting from these stations to set up ten more observation spots, joint finally by four to five longitudinal observation sites and one or two latitudinal sites to form an entire observation network for Tibetan Plateau monitoring and observation.
