In the newly accomplished 2004/5 UNEP year book, Prof Yao Tandong, director of ITP and his colleagues’ scientific study of glaciers on the Tibetan Plateau was acknowledged. Their discovery that Tibetan glaciers were shrinking in an all-around way due to global warming received world attention.

This year’s UNEP year book emphasized the recent discovery of world environmental development and its influence on human, calling for more attention to the global warming.
