During the first session of CliC Conference held in China Meterological Administration on April,11th, Tibetan Plateau research became a popular target for international scientific study.

Tibetan Plateau has always been considered as the third pole of the earth, therefore, its significance in the study of global change is no less than that of polar regions. Besides, the plateau locates in the mid-low latitudes, where anthropogenic activities are common, thus it becomes an ideal place for the study of environmental change and its correlation with anthropogenic activities.

"Hardly nowadays can we find any country that doesn’t study Tibetan Plateau,” Director of National Climate Center Dong Wenjie said to the reporter. Dong told the reporter that sensitive to climate, Tibetan Plateau has attracted scientists in China, Japan, South Korea and India, which are directly affected by East Asian Monsoon, to put more effort in the study. US and European countries also invested substantially in this study for an all-around understanding of global climate.

“In order not to be defeated in the fierce competition, China should strengthen its support and effort in Tibetan Plateau research.” He added.
