Study of atmospheric physics progresses smoothly on Mt Qomolangma

Date:2005-04-21

The group of atmospheric physics in the expedition team has so far succeeded in carrying out their studies on Mt Qomolangma. Prof. Ma Yaoming, chief scientist of the group reported to ITP recently.

Various sophisticated scientific apparatus has been set up in the planned cites on high elevated mountains, in spite of the strong gale almost every day. With the equipment, scientists can learn in accuracy the radiating power in atmospheric process, heat flux on the surface, exchange of carbon dioxide and water, and the variations of soil temperature and humidity. Meanwhile, they have released a wireless radiosonde to the air to probe into the structures and temporal changes of near-surface atmosphere, troposphere and free atmosphere.

Prof. Ma also told ITP that the exact spot of field monitoring and observation platform on Mt Qomolangma has been chosen and researchers would came down to the establishment once the relevant applications got approved.
