Norwegian medium concerned about glacial variation

Date:2005-09-16

Acknowledging the significance of glaciers on Mt Himalayas as Chinese importance water source and the potential influence to water resource caused by glacial variation, Panopticon, a Norwegian channel, made a working visit to ITP on Sept. 11, 2005, and interviewed with Prof. Yao Tandong, who briefed them on the history and current situation of glaciers on the Plateau, pointing out the influence of anthropogenic activity on environmental changes, and emphasizing the importance of harmonious co-existence and development between man and nature.

As a continuous series of the popular program called “probing into history of water resource”,  which has been jointly produced by NRK and University of Bergen since 1977, this visit was part of the program entitled “glancing over future water resource,” with some filmed in China.

The group will go to the Tibetan Plateau next year to do more in situ filming, as well as experiencing the actual glacial variation around them.
