Scientists embark on expedition to Kekexili
Starting from Lhasa on September 20, 2005, ITP professor Ding Lin led an expedition team to Kekexili, to study such subjects as continental lakes, volcanoes and earthquakes, glacier and permafrost, mineral resources and wild life, as well as climate there, in the hope of understanding from the in situ research the ecology on the Plateau, as well as that in the world as a whole.
Reporters were told that, this expedition team reached a place 150 km north of the Double Lakes in Kekexili on September 30, coming nearer to the study site, no-man’s area in Kekexili.
On acknowledging such a move in Tibetan Plateau research, CAS President Prof Lu Yongxiang showed great concern, noting that, all crew in this expedition should put security issue at the first place before contributing to the sustainable development of West China with their insightful scientific discoveries.
