Latest height of Mt Everest released

"The height of Mt Everest is exactly 8844.43m, still the hightest mountain in the world." State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping released its latest number of the height of Mt Everest on October 10, 2005.

According to in situ measuring with advanced equipment during the scientific expedition to Mt Everest this May, the pillar of the world, which used to be 8848.13m turned out to be 8844. 43m from this calculation.

 Ever since the release of this number, the old height, which came out of the in situ measuring in 1975, would be in the history only. As people embrace the new height of the mountain, scientists also began to probe into reasons behind the dwarfing of the world pillar.
