On October 29, 2005, the 3rd academic consultative committe of the Joint Key Laboratory of Cryosphere and Environment (JKLCE) was kicked off in CAREERI in Lanzhou. The laboratory, now mainly supported by CAS and CMS, used to be open laboratory of ice cores and environment within CAREERI. ITP, CAREERI and Chinese Academy of Meterology are the joint supporters for this laboratory.
Chinese Academicans professors Qin Dahe and Cheng Guodong co-presided over the committe, with relevant officials and professors from these research institutes attended. As a joint laboratory, the JKLCE takes advantage to develop multi-disciplinary studies in geography, atmospheric science and environmental science. It acclaims to aim at high asia cryosphere, and cold region media and environment in North and South Poles, to carry out studies in such international frontier fields as cryosphere and global climate and environmental change, and to provide scientific and technological support for West Development Plan, social progress, economic development and national security.
Representing one of the supporting institutes for JKLCE, ITP director Prof Yao Tandong attended the meeting and exchanged notes with other participants on how to hold a successful research laboratory during the new era.
The committe also witnessed an arrival of participants at an initial agreement on such issues as cooperative mechanisms, functioning modes.
