22nd Chinese Antarctic Research Expedition (CHINARE) came to an end recently, accomplishing over thirty research programs and more than twenty logistical tasks. According to the team leader Prof Wei Wenliang, there are five aspects of the work highlighting the expedition.
a) So far the largest-scale comprehensive scientific expedition to Mt Groff was accomplished, sampling universal debris, surveying ice caps, and so on;
b) Zhongshan Station meeting the standard proposed during the Tenth Five Year Plan got put into full operation;
c) Investigation of marine plankton covering four million km2 of the ocean was conducted, harvesting a large quantity of valuable biological samples;
d) Abiding by the International Law for Antarctic, hundreds of tons of life waste in the Zhongshan Station got collected and loaded back to
e) First aero-photography and survey of the Larsemann Hills where the Zhongshan Station is located, thus laying foundation for future mapping of the region thereupon.
