Date:2006-03-20

In a century’s time, water resource in the Yellow River origin will witness constant decrease. The annual distribution of the water will become even more uneven, with increasing threat from flood and aridity, reported the Institute of Hydrology and Water Resource in Lanzhou.

It also found that prominent changes have taken place in China in the past 100 years, annual temperature increasing by 0.4-0.5. It also predicted that, in the year 2020-2030, the annual temperature nationwide will rise 1.7.By the year 2050, this temperature rise will be as much as 2.2.

Based on such a dramatic rise in temperature, the report also revealed that runoff in the Yellow River origin will decrease by all means. It will probably not experience fundamental change before 2020. However, since 2050 when temperature rises dramatically, the runoff is projected to decrease by 5% every decade.
