Several specialists including CAS academicians Sun Honglie, Zheng Du, and Feng Zongwei arrived at the Nam Co Station on June 28, 2006, to inspect the operation of the station.
After the report of Prof Kang Shichang, Director of the Station, these specialists probed further into such issues as the monitoring objects of the station, majoring fields and construction of the station.
Academician Sun Honglie suggested the station add study of ecology in its monitoring plan. ‘The responses of vegetation change to global change should be involved in the daily monitoring.’ He said. ‘Besides, the research done in the station should also serve the purpose of social and economic development of the region.’
He also highlighted the importance of monitoring of glacial retreat and hydrological variation. He suggested strengthening observation in this field by adding up more hydrological observation spots nearby.
Academician Zheng Du agreed with him on the importance of vegetation monitoring at the station, and hoped the station would strengthen its work in this field.
After the meeting, the specialists also visited the infrastructure, meteorological observation tower and various types of equipment for the study of atmospheric environment in the station.
