2006 expedition to Kekexili ready for embark

Date:2006-10-07

On Sept 21, 2006, press conference for the CAS 2006 Expedition to Kekexili was held in Beijing, inviting relevant research staff, officials and interested media.

This expedition is the second cross trip to the core area in Kekexili, following the first successful trip last year. Participating scientific staff came from the ITP, the Institute of Geology and Geodynamics, Northwestern Institute of Plateau Biology etc. They planned this time to conduct a large-scale expedition from Golmud, Qinghai to Kekexili, northeastern Tibet in mid-October to late-November. During this 50-day-expedition, they hope to find the divide crest of the Plateau. They also tend to reveal the mystery of latest number of Tibetan antelopes and their migration rules. Possibility of rehabilitation on the region would also be addressed so long as environmental change trend there get nailed down. Moreover, past decadal retreat and future decadal variation of continental glaciers there would also be submitted to systematic study.
