Radial growth and dead leaves on southeast Tibet under dynamic monitoring

During July and August, 2006, dead leaves under the trees were submitted to long-term dynamic monitoring on southeastern Tibet, sampled once a month respectively from the southern and northern slopes with five collectors ( sizing 1.5*0.5m). Besides, heat-water balance and botanical biology along the forest line was also among the research area, as 1000 plus plant and soil samples have been collected.

 

Before that, the CAS set up the Alpine Environmental Observation Station on southeastern Tibet near Seche La Natural Reserve in Nyingchi last August. The planned monitoring realm include forest line of abies georgei var. smithii (4200-4300m a.s.l, N 29°3551.3,E 94°3642.4)on northern slope, and that of sabina saltuaria (4400-4500m a.s.l, N 29°3635.0,E 94°3615.5)on the southern slope. The field sampling this time was a further effort to study forest line formation mechanism and biology under radical environment. Responsible scientists tend to combine their sample analysis with existing radial growth monitoring and tree ring isotopic study in that area. Hopefully, they can thus realize the dynamic monitoring of ground productivity along forest line, supporting the analysis of bio-systematic nutrient circulation and its utilitarian efficiency there.
