Three cites of GPS observation were recently set up respectively in Mt Himalaya observation station, Cuomai and Zhongba on the Plateau, targeting at the rules of continental dynamics on the Plateau, to contribute to disaster prevention and release, as well as resource exploitation in Tibet.

This is the initial move the ITP adopted to realize long-term consistent observation on the expansive Tibet area. It is also compensation, or a strengthening-up of the national GPS net work, which involves but a few GPS observation spots on the Plateau.

The institute will put the GPS system into operation next spring and start data-downloading then. Three more persistent GPS stations will also be under construction by then.
