Prof Toshio Koike talks about climate change in the ITP

On July, 18, 2008, the ITP scientific staff and graduates welcomed in Beijing Prof. Toshio Koike from the University of Tokyo to present his observation and modeling work . During the presentation, Prof. Koike reported on atmospheric heating and change of water cycle to global warming. He also informed the participants on the latest IPCC report and the attitudes Japanese scientific and political communities adopt in confronting global warming. His report shed light on potential threat posed by global warming, calling for more involvement in the study of climate.

 

Long engaged in the study of Tibetan Plateau and hydrology-meteorology interaction of the Asian monsoon, as well as the forecast of future climate, Prof. Koike is an internationally acknowledged scientist, taking charge of a number of organizations and programs. Among them, he is the Japanese PI of the GAME/Tibet project. Therefore, he was appointed by the Laboratory of Tibetan Environment Change and Land Surface Processes, CAS, as a member of the academic consultative committee.
