Field work carried out by the Tibetan Observation and Research Platform (TORP), ITP, was briefed in Beijing on February 28, 2010. CAS academician and ITP director, Prof. YAO Tandong, attended the meeting, together with ITP deputy directors XIE Pengyun, YANG Yongping and MA Yaoming. The meeting heard the report by heads of various stations within TORP on the field observation in 2009, data acquisition and databank construction at respective station, and possible contribution of scientific research thereupon to Tibet development.
Four aspects of effort in the planning of 2010 field work by TORP were proposed by Prof. Yao, in view of Year 2009 achievement and insufficiencies:
1) to systematically categorize field data;
2) to realize a sustainable operation in field stations asides detailing monitoring items and enhancing observation research level;
3) to orient the advantages of each station’s in monitoring on respective geographical and geomorphologic features for a focused study of a particular aspect; and
4) to better serve for regional social and economic development and contribute to ecological security and science popularization.
