ITP welcomes academic visit of University of Cambridge lecturer

Date:2010-11-02

Dr. Albert Galy of Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge, visited ITP from October 11 to 29, 2010, under the invitation of ITP scientific staff FANG Xiaomin and LI Minghui.

Experienced in isotope geochemistry and wind erosion, Dr. Galy shared his insights on Tibetan Plateau tectonics-erosion-climate interactions during his visit by hosting serial lectures at ITP Beijing. Ranging from general introduction of such normal and abnormal stable isotopes as Sr, Os, Mg and Ca, to sampling and analyzing caveats in the applications in geosciences frontiers, his lectures shed light on climate change and earth-ocean-atmosphere systems, thus broadening graduates’ horizon in earth science studies.

After the academic lectures at ITP Beijing, Dr. Galy also tripped to the Qaidam Basin and closely followed the deep-core drilling in the basin. He expressed intense interest in the Holocene profile therein and sampled some selected sediment for further study.
