During April 23-28, the European Geosciences Union General Assembly kicked off in Vienna, Austria. Third Pole Environment (TPE) program joined the EGU 2017 and hosted another session entitled “The Third Pole Environment: hydrometeorological processes and ancient human activity”. This session was co-convened by ITP Profs. MA Yaoming, ZHANG Fan, Yao Tandong and Chen Fahu, together with Prof. Bob Su of University of Twente, Netherlands and Prof. Franco Salerno of Water Research Institute-Italian National Research Council.
TPE session this year witnessed 12 oral and 26 poster presentations, all evolving around the environment changes and land surface processes on the Tibetan Plateau, regional water cycle, adaptation to climate change and alpine-cold ecology and biodiversity . Researchers from all over the world shared their latest understanding of these scientific issues, exchanged ideas, and planned on future cooperation. It provided a platform for TPE researchers to show their latest research achievements, and further promote the TPE concept in the international academic world.
