Third Pole Water Cycle under monsoon-westerly interaction and its hydrological and environmental implications

PI: Yinsheng Zhang, Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences
Period:2015-2017
Funded by Chinese Academy of Sciences

Undertaken by the Center for Excellence in Tibetan Plateau Earth Sciences (CETES) of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), this project builds on the China-Pakistan cooperative research conducted under the framework of Third Pole Environment "(TPE)" . It studies water cycle in glacier basin where westerlies and monsoon interact. Based on in-situ observation, the research uses remote sensing and simulation to study climate and glacier changes, as well as water cycle and its environmental effects in Third Pole areas where westerly-monsoon interact. By collecting data through cross-border observation, and cultivating talents for cooperative research, the project hopes to upgrade scientific and technological cooperation among Third Pole countries. It is also the project’s ambition to provide scientific and technological services to “the Belt and Road” Initiative.
