Tribhuvan University delegates visit ITPCAS

Representatives of the Tribhuvan University (TU) authority led by Prof Jira Bahadur Maharjan visited ITPCAS on August 19, 2014. Among the representatives were Mr. Chandra Mani Paudel, TU Registrar, Mr Bal Mukunda Bhandari, executive director of TU Center for International Relations, and Prof. Lochan Devkota, head of TU Central Department of Meteorology. They were welcomed by ITP Director Prof. YAO Tandong.

The delegates were invited to learn the background and updates of the CAS Center in South Asia (Kathmandu), which would be established on the TU campus. Prof. Lochan Devkota, also executive director of the TPE Kathmandu center, first introduced the background and significance in establishing the CAS center in the university. He concluded his report by proposing several aspects to be focused on for the sustainable development of the Center, including forecast and adaptation to the geo-hazards, water cycle, biodiversity, etc. Prof. LIANG Eryuan, executive director of the CAS center followed up by introducing the background, overall goal and courses in founding the CAS center in Kathmandu. He also informed the delegates of the ongoing research activities carried out by ITP scientists in Nepal, and current plan to further the center by constructing and/or renovating guest house, office buildings and observation field on the campus.

Both ITP and TU participants at the meeting then exchanged notes on the orientation, goals, research themes and future development of the CAS center in Kathmandu. Both sides considered the promotion of the Center an important event not only for the TU development, but also for the friendship between Chinese and Nepalese.

The TU delegates were also invited to visit the labs in ITP and to sit with Nepalese PhD candidates and post-docs pursuing further study at ITP for their lives and study in China. Their visit to ITP was intended to forward the establishment of the CAS Center in South Asia (Kathmandu).
