Series 2 of My Journal with the Scientific Investigation Group to Namunani: Dashing for Thirty-six Hours through Mountainous Icy Region

Translated from www.People.com

The scientific investigation group consisted of about twenty members, with five cross-country vehicles, among which one was set aside for carrying scientific research equipment and living necessities. The group was divided into two contingents. The first one set off on the noon of 13th, while the second, which I was in with three scientists form ITP, starts on the next noon. Our first stop was in Caca town, Sagah County, which took us one and a half days to reach.

We had planned to follow the route along 318 State-run Road, across Rikaze, then on 219 State-run Road, heading west toward the county of Pulan, where Namunani, our final destination locates. But the constant rain ruined 318 State-run Road, thus forced us to climb up to Yang Bajing and across the west of Nianqing Tanggula Mountain to reach there.

On our way, we should always be alert of the dangers lying ahead. The August rain has brought many inconveniences by causing ditches everywhere, which posed many threats to the smooth procession of our sport vehicles.

The minute we arrived at the town of Caca, everyone in the group was exhausted and went into a sound sleep on settling down. However, on the next noon, everyone became fresh again, heading vigorously for our next destination.
