Sino-Japan expedition to North Tibet completed

Translated from www.people.com      6th, sept.

Recently, a Sino-Japan joint expedition has finished their investigation in North Tibet, monitoring and collecting materials along the 1000km Qinghai-Tibetan Road and in Tanggula and Nianqing Tanggula Regions. On their way, they tested nine automatic meteorological stations, one complex station of frontier tiers and radiation, nine monitoring centers for temperature and humidity of deeper soil, two multi-disciplinary observation stations and other monitoring means and stations to obtain a large number of valuable data concerning atmosphere, soil and ecology of the plateau.

Prof. Ma Yaoming, team leader of this expedition told reporter that these scientific data would further be studied to understand the correlation between alpine atmosphere and ecological processes, as well as the features of unique atmospheric frontier structure and energy-water circulation processes on the plateau. These studies would form a solid foundation for acknowledging global climate change. They will also help us in forecasting catastrophic weather of China in the future.

After the expedition, all the members have returned to their posts in their own research institutes, busily doing research work and analyzing their materials.
