Atmospheric boundary layer study discussed in Tibet

On Aug. 19-25, 2009, the Seventh National Workshop on Atmospheric Boundary Layer was held in Nyingchi, Tibet Autonomous Region, focusing on such academic issues as the land-atmosphere interaction with complex ground surface, observation and modeling of the interaction and unique features of atmospheric boundary layers over such geomorphology, and application of remote sensing and numerical assimilation.
The workshop attracted over eighty participants from universities such as Peking University and Nanjing University and research institutes within the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences. Experts exchanged views on research progresses and bottlenecks in China’s study of atmospheric boundary layers, and proposed to promote the funding rates of relevant studies and suggested on measures to push forward the study. Involvement of such a large number of scientific staff nationwide reflected populous study of atmospheric boundary layer physics, chemistry, and environment nowadays.
After the workshop, participants were shown around ITP’s three field observation and monitoring stations in Namco, southeast Tibetan Plateau and Mt Qomolangma regions, respectively, for a better understanding of current research platforms on the Plateau.
