German scientists visit NAMORS

Over 10 German scientists arrived at NAMORS on November 21, 2012, to acquaint themselves with the newly refurbished field station nearby Nam Co, Tibet, China. NAMORS director Prof. KANG Shichang introduced to them research programs conducted at the station since its establishment in 2005, and academic achievements done in the past few years. He also stressed that Nam Co is a key area for Sino-German cooperation. From him, visitors knew that a number of Sino-German cooperative projects have been conducted at the station since 2005, revolving around glaciers, hydrological processes, lake processes, and paleoenvironment study. Those research fruits have contributed to a comprehensive understanding of multisphere interactions over the Nam Co region.

Prof Kang also discussed with Prof. Antje Schwalb on ProTiP program, a program intended to jointly cultivate docters and post-docs in China and Germany, in an effort to educate more qualified young scientists who have the passion and interest in studying Tibetan Plateau environment and climate. NAMORS is chosen as one of the field bases for young scientists within the program to experience the field work, and get acquainted with landscape and landsurface processes that are unique for the Plateau.
