Equipment set up for observing lake-air energy and water interaction over Namco Lake

A set of observation system for eddy covariance and energy balance was set up over the Namco Lake by ITP scientific staff, according to the program office of the National 973 Project entitled “Study of Tibetan plateau climate changes, their mechanisms and influences on the East Asian region”.

Thanks to the arduous and efficient work of participating scientific staff, the sophisticated equipment now stands above the surface of the 4700 m-elevated Namco Lake, to observe and record interactions between lake-air energy and water cycles.

This piece of equipment is the first of its kind to acquire holistic dataset including radiation of lake surface and the air above, as well as energy and water interactions in concern. Such  first-hand data will be useful for the study of lake surface evaporation, energy balance and its variation under current global climate changes.
