CHEN Deliang, the distinguished professor of the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, CAS, won the 2017 International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China

According to the latest news, CHEN Deliang, the distinguished professor of Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, CAS, was granted the 2017 International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China. The award ceremony is held on January 8, 2018.
The International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China is a national science and technology award established by the State Council. It is granted to foreign scientists, science and technology engineers and managers, or organizations that have made important contributions to China's bilateral or multilateral scientific and technological cooperation.
Prof. Deliang Chen is a Swedish scientist who holds the August Röhss Chair at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He is also an elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences in Gothenburg, as well as a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
While promoting achievements by Chinese scientists worldwide, Prof. Chen also engages his Chinese counterparts on international endeavors, where he has nurtured a number of young scientists. During his tenure as executive director of the International Council for Science (2009-2012), its first China-based international program office was established. This has played an important role in China’s scientific and technological innovation toward the international stage.
As the distinguished professor of Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, CAS (ITP-CAS) and project coordinator, he promotes and participates in major research projects led by ITP-CAS actively, and won the CAS International Cooperation Award in 2016. He has made many achievements in the environmental changes in the third pole region under the multiphase transition of the water and the west wind monsoon by collaborating with scientists from ITP-CAS. As a member of the executive board of a CAS-initiated international program, the Third Pole Environment, he contributed to the Assessment Report of Tibetan Plateau Eco-environment Changes. The report provided a scientific basis and strong guidance for the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau’s environmental protection and ecological conservation.
