CAS President Chunli Bai visited the BAEC


Chunli Bai, President of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Jinghua Cao, Director General of CAS Bureau of International Co-operation, Yaoming Ma, Deputy Director of Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITP) CAS, Baosheng An, Director of Office of General Affairs ITP, and other scientists were invited to visit the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) on March 27, 2018. During the meeting, President Bai and Mahbubul Haq, Chairman of BAEC, firstly introduced CAS and BAEC, respectively. The two sides discussed about scientific research cooperation, talent training, technical training and other related topics. After that, Nasir Ahmed, Head of the Isotope Hydrology Division, Institute of nuclear science and Technology (INST), Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE), introduced the cooperation between ITP and INST, and Prof. Fan Zhang, Director of the International Cooperation Division ITP, introduced the launching, implementation and progress of the Third Pole Environment (TPE) program. Witnessed by President Bai and Chairman Haq, ITP and INST signed a renewed memorandum of cooperation.
In October 2014, ITP signed the first memorandum of cooperation with INST and launched a cooperative study on precipitation stable isotope. In April 2016, the two sides held a seminar in ITP Beijing to promote further communication and cooperation. In December 2016, three scientists from ITP visited AERE and Bangladesh University of engineering and Technology (BUET), which deepened the understanding of Bangladesh research institutions. In October 2017, ITP and INST agreed to expand cooperation to water vapor stable isotopes. In March 2017, Jing Gao, Associate Professor of ITP transported the related equipment from Beijing to Dhaka, and completed the installation in INST. The new memorandum of cooperation is a new starting point for the study on water vapor transport process over the pan third pole under the influence of India monsoon, through observation of precipitation and water vapor stable isotopes.
